Chile - Establishes phytosanitary import requirements for Alfalfa Hay (Medicago sativa) intended for animal consumption

Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG)establishes the following phytosanitary import requirements

1. Establishes the following phytosanitary import requirements for alfalfa hay (Medicago sativa) in different presentations or conservation and storage systems intended for animal consumption, from Argentina.

2. For the purposes of the draft Resolution, different presentations may be accepted, such as traditional bales, mega bales, High Density bales (FAD's), rolls, buckets, among others.

3. The shipment must be covered by an Official Phytosanitary Certificate from the country of origin, which includes the following additional statement:

 The shipment was subjected to a heat treatment, to control weed seeds, indicating in Section III of the phytosanitary certificate exposure time, product temperature and treatment date.

 Heat treatment can be done before or after wrapping.

4. The following will be accepted as heat treatment for the control of the seeds:

 Dry heat treatment at 120 ° C for 15 minutes.

 The exposure time should start counting once the entire mass reaches the required temperature.

5. The shipment must come free of soil.

6. Any of the presentations indicated in resolution 2 must be identified with the species, producer and production area.

7. The packaging material must be adequate for eventual quarantine treatment actions at points of entry.

8. The wood of the packaging and pallet, as well as the wood used as accommodation material, must comply with the quarantine regulations for entering the country.

9. Shipments, as they are intended for animal consumption, must meet the requirements established by the Livestock Protection Division of the Agricultural and Livestock Service.

10. Each consignment will be inspected by the Agricultural and Gnadero Service at the point of entry for the physical and documentary verification of the phytosanitary requirements established for its importation. Given the detection of quarantine pests listed in Resolution No. 3,080 of 2003 and its modifications, or not listed that are potentially quarantine, according to Risk Assessment, the application of phytosanitary measures to manage the identified risk may be determined.
