Republic of Korea - Proposed Amendments to the Standards and Specifications for Foods

Ministry of Food and Drug Safety has issued notification on Proposed Amendments to the Standards and Specifications for Foods  

The proposed amendments seek to:

1.       Allow storing and distributing of hermetically sealed soybean curd, whole soybean curd and starch gel (muk) at room temperature;

2.       Mitigate the Escherichia coli standard for prepared foods in restaurants (including catering foods) to practical level;

3.       Establish and revise the maximum residue limits for pesticides:

-        Establish the maximum residue limits for three newly registered pesticides (Isofetamid, etc.);

-        Expand the range of target agricultural products for 40 pesticides (Glufosinate, etc.);

-        Revise the definition of residues for four pesticides (Benfuracarb, etc.);

4.       Establish the maximum residue limits for veterinary drug (Nandrolone) in foods;

Establish and revise the general testing methods.
