Engineering is by far the largest segment in the Indian industry, employing approximately four million skilled and semi-skilled workers. The engineering sector has witnessed tremendous growth, led by significant investments in power projects an infrastructure development. India's merchandise exports registered a growth of 9.06 percent year-on-year in 2018-19 with US$ 331.02 billion.

- In 2018-19, India’s engineering export stood at US$ 81.02 billion and during April-October 2019 stood at US$ 44.97 billion.
- Out of 209 exports destinations of Indian engineering goods, top 25 nations accounted for 75.49 percent of India's total engineering exports in 2018-19.
- During April-October 2019, top 25 nations accounted for 75.18 percent of India's total engineering exports in 2018-19.
