Israel - Draft amendment to Israel's Ministry of Health regulations "Public Health Regulations (Food) (Pesticide residues) (Amendment) 5776-2016" Israel WTO-TBT Enquiry Point has issued draft amendment to Israel's Ministry of Health regulations titled "Public Health Regulations (Food) (Pesticide residues) (Amendment) 5776-2016". These regulations regulate the use of pesticides and determine the maximum residue levels (MRL's) allowed in foods according to toxicological findings and the agricultural need. The regulation undergoes amendments regularly, reflecting the changing use of pesticides in Israel. The need for updates indicates the change in the mix of materials licensed for use in food production, combined with the results of ongoing toxicological studies and newly performed risk assessments. It takes into consideration the following: new pesticides entering into use, others that are no longer in use, newly published toxicological risk assessments requiring limitations on, or even prohibition of the use of pesticides and at times, due to emerging agricultural needs, increased MRLs. This new amendment will replace the regulations' 3 annexes and will provide an amended list of pesticides MRLs. Altogether it is reassessing 45 different values.
