Republic Of Korea - Proposed Food Labelling Act to improve predictability and feasibility for industries and consumers:

Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) has issued notification on proposed Food Labelling Act. This proposed Act seeks to:

· Improve predictability and feasibility for industries and consumers to access relevant provisions by consolidating all provisions relating to labelling and advertising prescribed in three acts, which are Food Sanitation Act, Livestock Products sanitary Control Act, Functional Health Foods Act, and their related notifications.

· Repeal the current provisions on Deliberation on Labels and Advertisements regarding infant foods, specially designed foods for weight control and health foods.

Satisfy consumers demand to know, and facilitate fair trade by clarifying provisions to prevent false or exaggerated labelling or advertising.

Proposed date of adoption: To be determined

Proposed date of entry into force: To be determined

Final date for comments: 60 days from notification
