United Arab Emirates is imposing a temporary ban on the importation of domestic and wild birds and their untreated by-product, day-old chicks, hatching eggs from Philippines, and imposition of a temporary ban on the importation of poultry meat and table eggs from Pampanga in Philippines

Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) Emirates is imposing a temporary ban on the importation of domestic and wild birds and their untreated by-product, day-old chicks, hatching eggs from Philippines, and imposition of a temporary ban on the importation of poultry meat and table eggs from Pampanga in Philippines.

Following the notification published by the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) on 11 August 2017 regarding the outbreak of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza Virus (HPAI) in Pampanga in Philippines, the United Arab Emirates is applying a precautionary sanitary measure to prevent the risk of introducing HPAI virus through the imports of live birds and their products from Philippines. These measures include:  Temporary ban on the importation of domestic and wild birds and their untreated by-products, day-old chicks and hatching eggs originating from Philippines;  Temporary ban on poultry meat and table eggs and their untreated products from Pampanga in Philippines, except heat-treated products;  Consignments of poultry meat shipped from Pampanga in Philippines before 3 July 2017 were permitted.

Nature of the urgent problem: There is a risk of contamination from importing poultry and poultry products from Pampanga in Philippines, which is affected with Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza. This follows the notification of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza in Pampanga in Philippines on 11 August 2017. These applied measures are in compliance with Article 10.4.4, Chapter 10.4 of the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) Terrestrial Animal Health Code.

Products covered: Live poultry, and poultry products including poultry meat, day-old chicks, hatching eggs, except heat-treated meat
