Mexico - Proposed amendment to Mexican Official Standard NOM-050-SEMARNAT-1993

Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources notified Standard is binding for the owners or lawful possessors of motor vehicles circulating in the country, which are powered by liquefied petroleum gas, natural gas or other alternative fuels. It is also binding for officials from control centres and, where appropriate, vehicle verification units.

The notified Standard does not apply to vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of 400 kg or less, hybrid vehicles, motorcycles, agricultural tractors, or machinery used in the construction and mining industries, or to motor vehicles circulating in the federal entities of Mexico City, Hidalgo, Mexico State, Morelos, Puebla and Tlaxcala, which use natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas or alternative fuels.
