Mexico proposes standards on Energy Efficiency of Lamps for General Use

Secretaría de Energía has proposed standard applies to general purpose lamps intended for lighting residential, commercial, services, industrial and public lighting sectors, such as: incandescent, incandescent with halogen, linear fluorescent, high discharge Intensity and mixed light; Imported, manufactured, and / or marketed within the national territory.

Excluded from the scope of this draft Mexican standard is lighting lamps that have a specific Mexican standard in terms of energy efficiency, as well as types of lamps that have one or more of the following characteristics:

• Black light, anti-insect, infrared, use in means of transportation, signaling, mining, plant growth, aquariums, antifragmentation, semaphorization, with integrated reflector, entertainment, photoprojection, medical or therapeutic use.

• Incandescent lamps for use exclusively in household appliances, in potencies less than or equal to 40W, such as those used in ovens, microwaves, refrigerators, fans, extractor hoods, sewing machines, dryers.

• Incandescent and incandescent lamps with halogen rated voltage up to 32 volts or less.

• Left-hand, triple-power or color lamps.

• Incandescent and incandescent lamps with decorative halogens, in potencies less than or equal to 40W, in any shape of bulb, in any type of base.

• Linear fluorescent lamps less than 50 cm in length, with a color rendering index equal to or greater than 90, color temperature greater than 7 000 K, designed to operate at low temperatures, ultraviolet and other special applications.

• Compact fluorescent lamp without integrated ballast, circular fluorescent lamps.

• Low pressure sodium lamps, LED and magnetic induction.

• Double-ended quartz metal additive lamps with protected discharge tube or reflector.

• Ceramic metal additive lamps with power of 20 W or less, with protected discharge tube or with reflector.

• High pressure sodium vapor lamps with a power of 50 W or less, with a reflector or a color rendering index equal to or greater than 60.

Proposed date of adoption : This Draft Official Mexican Standard will be adopted once it is published in the Official Gazette of the Federation as the definitive Official Mexican Standard.

Proposed date of entry into force : This draft Official Mexican Standard, once published in the Official Gazette of the Federation, as a final rule, will enter into force 60 calendar days following the day of its publication.

Final date for comments : 60 calendar days after June 7, 2017
