EU proposes to amend the definition, description, presentation, labelling and the protection of geographical indications of spirit drinks

European Commission proposes to amend the two of the spirit drink categories of Annex II to Regulation (EC) No 110/2008, i.e. category 9 "fruit spirit" and category 10 "cider spirit and perry spirit" to adapt them respectively to the traditional denomination and production methods actually used in EU Member States. Regardless of the title, please note that this draft Commission Regulation does not contain provisions on intellectual property right issues, in particular related to geographical indications. Only the provisions related to technical standards, definitions and labelling would be relevant for the purpose of the TBT Agreement.

Proposed date of entry into force : This Regulation shall enter into force on the third day following that of its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union.
