Brazil - Proposed resolution establishes criteria for the issuance of Food Export Sanitary Certificate, within the framework of the National Health Surveillance System

Brazilian Health Regulatory Agency (Anvisa) has proposed resolution establishes criteria for the issuance of Food Export Sanitary Certificate, within the framework of the National Health Surveillance System.

The Food Export Sanitary Certificate is a document issued by the National Sanitary Surveillance System responsible for the licensing of the manufacturer of the food product that will be exported, to exclusively attend sanitary requirements of food importing countries manufactured in Brazil. It is issued on a voluntary request from the exporting company, valid for 4 months from the date of issue. In the absence of models established by the importing country, the model established in the Annex to this Ministerial Order shall be adopted. To meet specific demands, information may be added to the model of Food Export Sanitary Certificate established in the annex, provided that its format and minimum content are not decharacterized.

The National Health Surveillance System shall request from the exporting company information on the requirements established by the importing country and the existence of specific models of Food Export Sanitary Certificate required by the sanitary authority of the importing country. Only the information that is within the competence of the National Sanitary Surveillance System must be included in the Food Export Sanitary Certificate. Laboratory analysis and other costs for exporting food are the responsibility of the exporting company.

This resolution comes into force on the date of its publication.
