Kenya - Withdrawal of KS 573:2014 Specification for high yield steel bars for the reinforcement of concrete

Kenya Bureau of Standards specifies requirements for rolled steel bars, other than plain round bars, for use in the reinforcement of concrete. It does not cover steel for pre-stressing concrete.

Observations made in regard to banning of twisted bars:

·         The twisted bars are of low tensile strength than Thermatically Treated bars (TMT)                 commonly known as Ribbed bars or deformed bars

·         The twisted bars are more affected by rust than TMT Bars

·         The twisted bars have weaker bonds with cement than TMT Bars

·         KS 573 is withdrawn with effect from 30 March 2017

·         No replacement

Products covered : Steels for reinforcement of concrete (ICS 77.140.15)

Proposed date of adoption: 30 September 2017

Proposed date of entry into force: 30 September 2017

Final date for comments: N/A
