Japan - Revising order, regulation and notification of METI for the Act on the Rational Use of Energy

Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) has issued notification on revision to Enforcement order, Enforcement regulation and establishment of Notification of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) for the Act on the Rational Use of Energy.

Under the Act on the Rational Use of Energy, the new energy efficiency standards are established for light bulbs and lighting equipment in the aim of improvement of their energy saving performance. The product scope, the measurement method of energy consumption efficiency, standard method and labelling requirement and so on will be established.

Products covered : Light bulbs: Incandescent bulb, high-pressure mercury lamp which has built-in stabilizers, self-ballasted fluorescent lamp and self-ballasted LED lamp; Lighting equipment: Lighting equipment for incandescent lamp, for fluorescent lamp and for LED lamp.

Proposed date of entry into force: Around summer of 2017

Final date for comments: 60 days from notification
