EU – Proposing non approval of 2-methyl-1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one as an active substance for use in biocidal products of product-type 13

European Commission has issued notification on draft regulation not approving 2-methyl-1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one as an active substance for use in biocidal products of product-type 13

The scenarios evaluated in the environmental risk assessment identified unacceptable risks for the environment (groundwater) for this use. The opinion of the European Chemicals Agency can be found on its website (http://echa.europa.eu/).

The objective behind this measure is to protection of public health and of the environment and Harmonisation of the EU market on biocidal products.

Proposed date of adoption: End of June 2017

Proposed date of entry into force: 20 days from publication in the Official Journal of the EU (Application 12 months after adoption)

Final date for comments: 60 days from notification
