Chile notifies fresh jujubes (Ziziphusjujuba Mill.) from China

Servicio Agrícola y Ganadero, SAG (Agriculture and Livestock Service) published resolution includes the following points:

  1. The following phytosanitary requirements are established for the importation of fresh jujubes (Ziziphus jujuba), produced in China, for consumption;
  2. The consignment must be covered by an official phytosanitary certificate issued by the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China (GACC) with the following additional declaration: "The consignment has been inspected and is free from: Bactrocera spp., Carposina sasakii, Aonidiella orientalis, Asphidiotus destructor, Parlatoria oleae, Parlatoria Ziziphi and Nipaecoccus nipae";
  3. The consignment must come from GACC-registered production and packing sites located within an area free from Bactrocera spp. (species of economic significance for the jujube). Areas free from Bactrocera spp. must be declared by GACC, in conformity with ISPM 4 and 26, and the status must be approved by SAG;
  4. Fresh jujubes from areas not free from Bactrocera spp. must be cold-treated at temperatures below 3°C for 18 continuous days, in accordance with the Operational Procedures for Cold Treatment at Origin or in Transit set out in the relevant annexes to the "Protocol on phytosanitary requirements for the export of fresh jujubes grown in China to Chile";
  5. The consignment must come from production sites that observe Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and Integrated Pest Management (IPM);
  6. GACC will take necessary control measures in registered areas so as to maintain the phytosanitary status of the orchards and effectively control pests that are quarantine pests for Chile;
  7. The consignment must be free of soil and other plant remains;
  8. The consignment must be in new, unused packaging that is labelled or marked with information such as the name of the fruit, province of origin, orchard name or code, packing facility name or code and the words "Export to the Republic of Chile". These words must appear on all boxes in the consignment for non-palletised goods, or on one label per pallet if the consignment is palletised.
  9. The packaging material, including wood dunnage and spacers, must allow for potential quarantine treatments to be carried out at the point of entry and must comply with the relevant specific phytosanitary regulations for entry into the country.
  10. SAG officials at the point of entry will inspect the consignment upon its arrival in Chile, verify its compliance with the relevant phytosanitary requirements, and decide, on the basis of the accompanying documentation, whether its entry should be authorized or whether appropriate measures should be adopted in accordance with existing legislation.
