EU amending type‑approval requirements for certain motor vehicles fitted with elongated cabs and for aerodynamic devices and equipment for motor vehicles and their trailers European Commission proposes regulation is to set out type-approval requirement for devices or equipment that are designed to reduce the aerodynamic drag of heavy duty vehicles or their trailers and may protrude beyond the outermost part of those vehicles (at the front, back and/or laterally). Such devices can improve the aerodynamic performance of vehicles and have the potential to provide important benefits in terms of CO2 emission reduction and fuel savings. The proposal also envisages the possibility for extra weight allowance for motor vehicles powered with alternative fuel (e.g. hydrogen, electricity, etc.).
