Canada proposed to enable the Use of Glutaminase from Bacillus amyloliquefaciens GT2 as a Food Enzyme in Various Unstandardized Foods

Health Canada's Food Directorate completed a detailed safety assessment of a food additive submission seeking approval for the use of glutaminase from Bacillus amyloliquefaciens GT2 as a food enzyme in dairy-based flavouring preparations; hydrolyzed animal, milk and vegetable protein; yeast extract; and standardized egg products. The results of Health Canada's evaluation of available scientific data support the safety and efficacy of glutaminase from Bacillus amyloliquefaciens GT2 for its requested uses. Therefore, Health Canada intends to modify the List of Permitted Food Enzymes (https://canada-preview.adobecqms.net/en/health-canada/services/food-nutrition/food-safety/food-additives/lists-permitted/5-enzymes.html) as described in the information document referenced below.

The purpose of this communication is to publically announce the Department's intention in this regard and to provide the appropriate contact information for any inquiries or for those wishing to submit any new scientific information relevant to the safety of this food additive.
