Mexico proposed Mexican Standard PROY-NOM-001-SEGOB2-2018 For the determination, assignment and installation of the Vehicle Identification Number Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection.- Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System proposed Official Mexican Standard is mandatory for manufacturers, assemblers and importers located in the national territory, whose vehicles, whether produced or imported, are intended to remain in the Mexican Republic for circulation or marketing regardless of their energy environment or vehicle configuration and will be responsible for compliance with the obligations set out therein. The Vehicle Identification Number will serve individuals and the public sector as an instrument to identify the vehicle with legal certainty. This proposed Official Mexican Standard is not applicable to vehicles designed specifically for agricultural use, as well as those considered as toys, vehicles destined for automotive competitions that since its manufacture are destined for this purpose, and prototypes for exhibition, development or demonstration.
