Burundi proposed Law No. 1/23 of 23 November 2017 on the protection of plants in Burundi

Ministry of the Environment, Agriculture and Livestock proposed object of this Act is:

• Establishment and establishment of a legal framework for the protection of official control actions against organisms harmful to plants or plants from third countries and against their spread within the territory.

• The increase of agricultural productivity through the application of phytosanitary measures in accordance with the International Plant Protection Convention and the Agreement on Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures of the World Trade Organization.

• The establishment of a National Plant Protection Organization which is the authority responsible for the implementation of this law, in accordance with the International Plant Protection Convention.

This law covers the health protection of plants, plant products and articles regulated by:

• Prevention and official control of pests both in terms of their introduction and their spread on the national territory.

• Dissemination and popularization of plant protection techniques for the improvement of crop production.

• Support for exports / imports of plants and plant products.
