Uganda proposed standards for Lubricants, industrial oils and related products, Engine oils; Lubricating preparations, Polymer, Furniture

Uganda National Bureau of Standards proposed following:

1) FDUS 2079:2018, Standard Test Method for Measuring Viscosity at High Temperature and High Shear rate by Tapered-Plug Viscosimeter:

Uganda Standard covers test method for the laboratory determination of the viscosity of oils at 150 °C and 1 × 106 s-1 and at 100 °C and 1 × 106 s-1, using high shear rate tapered-plug viscometer models BE/C or BS/C.

Products covered: Mineral fuels, oils and products of their distillation

HS code: 27

2) FDUS 2082:2018 Standard Test Method for Measuring Apparent Viscosity at High‑Temperature and High-Shear Rate by Multicell Capillary Viscometer:

Uganda Standard covers the test method for the laboratory determination of high-temperature high-shear (HTHS) viscosity of engine oils at a temperature of 150 °C using a multicell capillary viscometer containing pressure, temperature, and timing instrumentation. The shear rate for this test method corresponds to an apparent shear rate at the wall of 1.4 million reciprocal seconds (1.4 × 10 6 s−1).

Products covered: Engine oils

HS code: 3403

3) FDUS 2075:2018, Standard Test Method for Shear Stability of Polymer Containing Fluids Using a European Diesel Injector Apparatus:

Uganda Standard covers the test method for the evaluation of the shear stability of polymer-containing fluids. The test method measures the percent viscosity loss at 100 °C of polymer-containing fluids when evaluated by a diesel injector apparatus procedure that uses European diesel injector test equipment. The viscosity loss reflects polymer degradation due to shear at the nozzle.

Products covered: Engine oils

HS code: 3403

4) FDUS 2072:2018 Standard Test Method for Determining Automotive Engine Oil Compatibility with Typical Seal Elastomers:

Uganda Standard covers the test method for quantitative procedures for the evaluation of the compatibility of automotive engine oils with several reference elastomers typical of those used in the sealing materials in contact with these oils. Compatibility is evaluated by determining the changes in volume, Durometer A hardness, and tensile properties when the elastomer specimens are immersed in the oil for a specified time and temperature.

Products covered: Engine oils

HS code: 3403

5) FDUS 2070:2018, Standard Test Method for Evaluation of Diesel Engine Oils in the T-11 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Diesel Engine:

Uganda Standard covers the test method of an engine test procedure for evaluating diesel engine oils for performance characteristics in a diesel engine equipped with exhaust gas recirculation, including viscosity increase and soot concentrations (loading). This test method is commonly referred to as the Mack T‑11. This test method also provides the procedure for running an abbreviated length test, which is commonly referred to as the T-11A.

Products covered: Engine oils

HS code: 3403

6) DUS 2069:2018 Standard Test Method for Shear Stability of Polymer Containing Fluids Using a European Diesel Injector Apparatus at 30 and 90 Cycle:

Uganda Standard covers the test method for the evaluation of the shear stability of polymer-containing fluids. The test method measures the viscosity loss, in mm2/s and percent, at 100 °C of polymer-containing fluids when evaluated by a diesel injector apparatus procedure that uses European diesel injector test equipment. The viscosity loss reflects polymer degradation due to shear at the nozzle. Viscosity loss is evaluated after both 30 cycles and 90 cycles of shearing.

Products covered: Polymers of ethylene, Cyclic polymers of aldehydes

HS code: 291250, 3901

7) FDUS 2083:2018, Standard Test Method for Evaluation of Corrosiveness of Diesel Engine Oil at 135°C:

Uganda Standard covers the test method for testing diesel engine lubricants to determine their tendency to corrode various metals, specifically alloys of lead and copper commonly used in cam followers and bearings.

Products covered: Diesel Engine Oil

HS code: 3403

Proposed date of adoption: December, 2018

Proposed date of entry into force: NA

Final date for comments: 27-12-2018
