Uganda proposed standards for Petroleum products, Engine oils

Uganda National Bureau of Standards proposed following:

1) DUS 2058:2018 Standard Test Method for Sulfur in Petroleum Products by Wavelength Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometry:

Uganda Standard covers the test method for the determination of total sulfur in petroleum and petroleum products that are single-phase and either liquid at ambient conditions, liquefiable with moderate heat, or soluble in hydrocarbon solvents. These materials can include diesel fuel, jet fuel, kerosene, other distillate oil, naphtha, residual oil, lubricating base oil, hydraulic oil, crude oil, unleaded gasoline, gasoline-ethanol blends, and biodiesel.

2) DUS 2057:2018 Standard Test Method for Low Temperature, Low Shear Rate, Viscosity/Temperature Dependence of Lubricating Oils Using a Temperature-Scanning Technique:

Uganda Standard covers the test method for the measurement of the apparent viscosity of engine oil at low temperatures. A shear rate of approximately 0.2 s-1 is produced at shear stresses below 100 Pa. Apparent viscosity is measured continuously as the sample is cooled at a rate of 1°C/h over the range ‑5°C to -40°C, or to the temperature at which the viscosity exceeds 40 000 mPa.s (cP).

3) DUS 2056:2018 Standard Test Method for Apparent Viscosity of Engine Oils and Base Stocks Between ‑10°C and -35°C Using Cold-Cranking Simulator:

Uganda Standard covers the test method for the laboratory determination of apparent viscosity of engine oils and base stocks by cold cranking simulator (CCS) at temperatures between -10°C and -35°C at shear stresses of approximately 50 000 Pa to 100 000 Pa and shear rates of approximately 105 to 104 s-1 for viscosities of approximately 900 mPa·s to 25 000 mPa·s. The range of an instrument is dependent on the instrument model and software version installed. Apparent Cranking Viscosity results by this method are related to engine-cranking characteristics of engine oils.

4) DUS 2055:2018 Standard Test Method for Evaluation of Automotive Engine Oils in the Sequence IIIG, Spark-Ignition Engine:

Uganda Standard covers the test method for an engine test procedure for evaluating automotive engine oils for certain high-temperature performance characteristics, including oil thickening, varnish deposition, oil consumption, as well as engine wear. Such oils include both single viscosity grade and multiviscosity grade oils that are used in both spark-ignition, gasoline-fueled engines, as well as in diesel engines.

5) DUS 2054:2018 Standard Test Method for Determination of Moderately High Temperature Piston Deposits by Thermo-Oxidation Engine Oil Simulation Test-TEOST MHT:

Uganda Standard covers the test method for the procedure to determine the mass of deposit formed on a specially constructed test rod exposed to repetitive passage of 8.5g of engine oil over the rod in a thin film under oxidative and catalytic conditions at 285°C. The range of applicability of the Moderately High Temperature Thermo-Oxidation Engine Test (TEOST MHT) test method as derived from an interlaboratory study is approximately 10mg to 100mg. However, experience indicates that deposit values from 1mg to 150mg or greater may be obtained.

This test method uses a patented instrument, method and patented, numbered, and registered depositor rods traceable to the manufacturer and made specifically for the practice and precision of the test method.

6) DUS 2053:2018 Standard test method for the determination of homogeneity and miscibility in automotive engine oils:

Uganda Standard covers the test method for the determination if an automotive engine oil is homogeneous and will remain so, and if it is miscible with certain standard reference oils after being submitted to a prescribed cycle of temperature changes. This test method is very similar to the homogeneity and miscibility test described in FED-STD-791/3470.1.
